As I planned my Japan trip, I had a yearning to escape the bustling cities and immerse myself in the serene beauty of the countryside. The idea of staying in a rural area for a couple of nights, surrounded by nature and the majestic presence of Mount Fuji, filled me with excitement.
Arrival in the Countryside
After booking a hotel room in a small town north of Mount Fuji, I embarked on my journey. Without a rental car, I relied on public transportation, taking a bus from the nearest train station. The 10-kilometer journey was an adventure in itself, with the stunning views of Mount Fuji captivating me at every turn, beckoning me to capture its beauty through my camera lens.
Arrival at the Hotel
As the bus dropped me off at the stop, the countryside’s tranquility enveloped me. The darkness was punctuated by the warm glow of vending machines, a familiar sight in Japan.
The Traditional Japanese Room
Upon entering my cozy room, I was initially puzzled by the lack of a traditional bed. However, I soon discovered that the table could be pushed aside, revealing space for the mattresses stored in the closet. Although the room lacked modern amenities like heated floors or central heating, a mobile gas heater provided warmth and comfort.
The Onsen Experience
One of the highlights of my rural retreat was the opportunity to indulge in the quintessential Japanese experience of an onsen, or public bath. Initially shy, I mustered the courage to embrace the cultural tradition of bathing communally in the same room, followed by a rejuvenating soak in the hot pool.
As the sun set over the countryside, painting the sky with vibrant hues, I felt a sense of peace and tranquility wash over me. This rural escape had provided me with a unique opportunity to connect with Japan’s rich cultural heritage while surrounded by the breathtaking natural beauty of Mount Fuji and the serene countryside.
